Bree wears many hats – but to us, she’s simply someone who makes this place better just by being here. Calm, focused, and driven, Bree has been a part of the Geelong Fitness family for years, bringing purpose and passion to every session she leads.
In our recent chat, Bree opened up about what keeps her coming back to coaching despite a demanding full-time career, why she believes exercise is more than just physical, and her message to anyone who feels nervous about getting started.
Q: What do you love the most about coaching?
A: “I find it extremely rewarding to help people on their fitness journey. I know for me exercise is so important, not just for my physical health but for my mental health as well. And being able to support people to experience the endorphin rush in an environment where they’re having fun at the same time. I think that’s one of the things I get the most satisfaction out of.”
Q: What do you want people to feel when they walk into your class?
A: I want people to feel not just seen in the class but also heard and not just a number but like a member of a community as well, which I think is something that Geelong Fitness, it’s one of the big positives with Geelong Fitness that provides people with a really safe and welcoming community to be a part of. A lot of different results from body composition change, improvements in strength, improvements in just movement capacity as well, which in turn improves people’s functions day to day, mental health, the whole works.
Q: What kinds of results have you seen from members you’ve coached?
A: A lot of different results from body composition change, improvements in strength, improvements in just movement capacity as well, which in turn improves people’s functions day to day, mental health, the whole works. Exercise is such a powerful tool in so many different ways in everyone’s health and well-being.
Q: What would you say to someone who’s nervous to start?
A: I often like the saying that motivation follows action. So often people are super motivated to start exercising, they don’t know where to start. They’ve been a non-exerciser so they haven’t been self-motivated. And sometimes the hardest thing is stepping foot inside the gym or just getting started. But once you get that momentum, 99% of the time it’s a positive experience and you’re going to want more of that endorphin rush that you get from a good workout. Rarely do you regret a workout.
Q: Why do you love coaching at Geelong Fitness?
A: So many reasons. I started in this industry with group fitness when I first moved to Geelong as a side People are amazing. It’s fun, but it’s purposeful and meaningful, having a positive impact on people’s lives, which I feel like is my purpose with work and in my other work as well, helping people. That’s really important to me. I’m big on enjoying what you do as a career because we spend so much time in our work and I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t enjoy it. So hence why I’m still here 10 years later. Thank you.
