What Happened at Our May 16 HYROX Simulation

On Saturday May 16, Geelong Fitness hosted its latest HYROX race simulation. Here’s what went down.

25 athletes. Every single one crossed the finish line.

We had 25 athletes compete on the day, singles and doubles, mixed abilities, people from Geelong and people who travelled from outside Geelong specifically to test themselves here.

Finishing times ranged from under one hour to just over two hours.

Every single athlete crossed the finish line.

That’s the number that stands out most.

What the day looked like

Our 700sqm venue housed all eight HYROX stations inside with the running lap outside. The weather held and the floor was set up and ready to go.

Heats were organised, judges were positioned at each station, and the instructions were clear from the start. The athletes knew exactly what was expected and the event ran smoothly from first heat to last finisher.

Music was up. Energy was high from the opening heat and it didn’t drop.

Who was on the floor

This simulation brought together three different groups of athletes.

Returning competitors. Several of our members were back for their second simulation. Most improved on their previous time. Some who competed as a doubles pair last time chose to go solo this time around. Watching people measure themselves against their own previous performance is one of the best parts of hosting these events.

6-week program graduates. A group of athletes who had been through our structured 6-week HYROX Training Program were putting it all together on the day. Everything they had trained for, pacing, movement, fatigue management; showed up on that floor. Watching the training translate into performance is exactly why we run this program the way we do.

Athletes from other gyms. We had people travel from other gyms in Geelong and from further afield just to compete and test themselves in a well-run simulation environment. That means something to us. We don’t take it lightly when people choose to come here.

The environment on the day

We made space for everyone.

Athletes chasing personal bests got pushed. Athletes who needed more time got it. The people finishing in two hours received the same energy and support as the people finishing in under one hour.

That’s not something we had to manufacture on the day. That’s the culture our gym has built over time, and it showed up exactly as it should.

Here’s what a few athletes said after the event:

“So impressed at the organisation and set up on Saturday, such a great vibe and can’t wait to see the next ones get bigger and bigger.” — Lissie Lyons

“Great and supportive people for my first HYROX sim. Thanks for hosting.” — Andrew Er

“Great Spot. Love the Hyrox sims they run, super well set up and atmosphere is lit!” — Paul Magee

Next simulation: June 20

Our next HYROX simulation runs on Saturday June 20 at Geelong Fitness.

If you’re competing at HYROX Sydney on July 1–5, this simulation falls two weeks out from race day. That’s the ideal window to do a full run-through, identify anything that needs work, and arrive at Sydney knowing exactly what to expect.

Spots are limited.
